Feeling Far from God: 3 Ways to Reconnect

Waterfalls are beautiful. The tallest in the world, Angel Falls in Venezuela, stands at a majestic 3,212 feet (979 meters).

It’s the highest interrupted waterfall in the world.

Some waterfalls cascade over naturally tiered and jagged rock formations creating fascinating and beautiful patterns as the water falls to earth.

Others fall in a plunge, one long, continuous stream.

They can be a relaxing and tranquil sight. Or, like Niagara Falls, be a source of energy to provide power for a large part of New York state.

No matter what their surroundings or location, most waterfalls have a continual flow and a source, the headwaters.

When we are feeling lost or far from God, we can go to the Source, the starting place—God Almighty—from whom all else flows.

He is the headwaters in our lives, the origin of natural and spiritual life. Where it all begins.

When we get in the flow of following His loving ways, He supplies the power we need to live.

From the Source, all else flows; and it is a continual flow of forgiveness, love, grace, and mercy that never stops.

Here are a few ways to draw near to God:

Pray. When you feel far from God, talk with Him–just as you would converse with a close friend. That’s what prayer is, talking and listening to the One who loves you most. God created you, sustains you, and desires His best for every area of your life.

Draw Near. Take a steps to actively seek God. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Knowing God is not about religion, it’s a relationship.

You don’t need to be afraid. He is a good and loving Father. And He loves you. You! He wants to be close to you and have a reciprocal relationship.

Trust. In time, you won’t feel so far away from God. As you pray, read the Bible (which is packed with hope and guidance), worship, and take time to be still and listen, a better and stronger connection forms.

And, just like with a good friend, you long to spend time together. Your connection and friendship grows deeper every day.

God refreshes us, and with that refreshment, we can nourish those around us, bringing hope and beauty to a thirsty world.

You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
(Isaiah 58:11)
